Tips for Recovering From Shoulder Pain
Shoulders make it possible to perform a variety of tasks at home, in the office, and in school; however, with the amount of stress exerted on the shoulders, it is not uncommon to experience shoulder pains from time to time. Although discomfort in the shoulders can negatively affect our lives, it isn’t life-threatening and can be treated with home remedies. However, if symptoms persist for long, then you’d have to visit an orthopedic who’ll diagnose and proffer a range of treatments. But let’s stick to the small remedies to help you recover from shoulder pain in the comfort of your home, office, or school.
1. Sleep carefully
A good sleeping position can be the difference between recovery and additional pain on your shoulder. To avoid the latter, it’s advisable to sleep in an upright position rather than lying flat. This would eliminate the pressure on your shoulder and foster speedy recovery.
2. Wear a sling after an operation
If you’ve had a shoulder operation, your physical therapist will recommend a sling to keep your shoulders from working during the recovery period. Just like the body needs rest after an emergency, so does the shoulder need rest after an operation.
3. Reduce pressure on your shoulders
Your shoulders should rest if you’re in pain. Reduce or eliminate any pressure that would have been put on your shoulder and let someone help you with the day’s work.
4. Cold compress
Applying an ice pack on the affected shoulder can reduce or even stop swelling. Find an ice pack and place it on your shoulder for about 20 minutes. Repeat this process for at least 5 times during the day.
