How to Introduce Technology to Children Safely

Teaching children how to use technology is important as nearly every aspect of life has become digital. Even from the age of preschool, many schools are integrating computer use as a core part of the curriculum.

However, there are issues that parents and schools need to consider. The use of electronic devices, especially when not monitored correctly, can lead to the development of attention-related disorders.

In recent decades, as the use of electronic devices has become more prevalent, researchers have seen a large uptick in the diagnosis of these issues among children. Therefore, strategies need to be devised to make sure that technology is introduced to them, but it does not contribute to any attention disorder.

Various methods can be adopted, and some of them are listed below:

  1. The screen time should be monitored under all circumstances. On average, 35- 40 minutes of screen time should be enough. Parents can decide when they wish to allow their child to watch TV or use iPads. After the screen time is over, children can indulge in baking, cooking, reading, etc.
  2. Parents should actively involve their kids in deep breathing and relaxation exercises. It will boost their attention span and focus, thus helping them control their mind. The mind should be entirely relaxed to focus on different tasks whenever required to do so.
  3. Make sure that when children get into bed to sleep, they are not given any sort of technology. Using phones before sleeping can cause fatigue and sleep deprivation. Parents need to be strict, and all their gadgets should be confiscated before they get in bed. It is always better to participate in relaxing activities for a sound sleep at night.
  4. Delayed gratification is another skill that the students need to learn as the aspect of getting immediate satisfaction after getting a task done can be very dangerous for them. They are likely to start expecting results as soon as something is executed later on in life. It is a skill that will help the child stay focused on their aims and goals. They are likely to develop patience, as well.

All the methods mentioned above are not easy to implement, but determination can help the parents to set a certain boundary of discipline within their household. Children might initially resist, but they will understand it later.
